DURHAM, N.C. -- On the heels of the program’s second appearance in the NCAA semifinals, the Duke men’s golf team will open the 2018-19 season ranked No. 18 in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Blue Devils fell one match short of reaching the NCAA National Championship match last season and return four of the five that competed in match play. Head coach Jamie Green welcomes back senior Alex Smalley, junior Chandler Eaton, and sophomores Adrien Pendaries and Evan Katz, who each contributed to Duke’s deep NCAA run in 2017-18.
Duke is joined in the preseason Top 25 by five other ACC schools, including Georgia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Florida State. Oklahoma State, the defending NCAA champion, is the unanimous preseason No. 1.
The Blue Devils open the 2018-19 season by hosting their own tournament – the Rod Myers Invitational – Sept. 8-9 at the Duke University Golf Club. The prestigious 13-team field includes two other preseason Top 25 squads in UNC and FSU.
