SEA ISLAND, Ga. -- Duke men’s golfers Alex Smalley and Chandler Eaton are two of 80 amateur golfers worldwide set to compete in the prestigious Jones Cup, which begins Friday at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.
Eaton is off at 9:50 a.m. ET on Friday, with Smalley teeing it up at 10 a.m. ET. Smalley, a senior from Wake Forest, N.C., is the 20th-ranked world amateur in the latest rankings with Eaton, a junior from Alpharetta, Ga., ranked 78th. In the latest Golfweek men’s college golf individual rankings, Smalley is fourth and Eaton is sixth.
First contested in 2001, Jones Cup is a 54-hole individual stroke-play event with the winner granted a spot in the PGA Tour event at Sea Island Golf Club next fall.
Past participants range from current and future PGA Tour stars Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson and Gary Woodland as well as past champions such as Kyle Stanley and Patrick Reed.
