DURHAM, N.C. – Over the weekend, freshman Blue Devil Adrien Pendaries participated in the Jones Cup Invitational, one of the more remarkable amateur events in the country.
The event, hosted at the Ocean Forest Golf Club (par 72, 7,321 yards) in Sea Island, Georgia, featured 54 holes of golf with the first round starting this past Friday.
Pendaries, who hails from Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, put together quite the tournament, securing a T8 finish in a talent-packed field after posting a 219 (+3) for the weekend.
The freshman, despite being hit with four bogeys and a double on Friday, managed to tally a quartet of birdies with two on the front and two on the back.
On Saturday, the scorecard was much cleaner for Pendaries, especially on the front nine where he avoided the bogey and garnered a pair of birdies in the process.
After two rounds, Pendaries was sitting tied for third on the leaderboard with a one-over 145. Although he was able to snare birdies on holes No. 2, 6 and 8 on Sunday, a trio of bogeys and a double on No. 15 pushed him to a final round of 74 (+2).
"Overall, I thought my game was pretty good from tee to green," Pendaries observed. "There's still some rust rust, but those are things that tighten up as the season goes on. I've had success in windy conditions before, and I feel like it should prepare me for the upcoming season."
Pendaries’ Blue Devils will open up the spring portion of their schedule at the start of next week, when they open up play in the Sea Best Invitational on Monday, February 5.
