DURHAM, N.C. – Following a promising effort in last week’s Valspar Collegiate Championship, the Duke men’s golf team will return to the links for the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, set to take place at the Weibring Golf Club (par 71, 6,915) in Normal, Ill. this Saturday and Sunday.

The Blue Devils are coming off a T-5 finish in Palm City, Fla., and will look to gear themselves up in their second-to-last event before diving into the ACC Tournament.

Host Illinois State has declared that both days of the tournament will begin with shotgun starts, with Saturday’s action featuring 36 holes followed by Sunday’s 18.

Duke is one of seventeen teams in the Weibring field – the others include Fort Wayne, Western Illinois, DePaul, Valparaiso, Detroit Mercy, Evansville, Creighton, NIU, Illinois State, SIU Edwardsville, Oakland, Drake, Bradley, Wisconsin, Butler and Northern Iowa.

Head coach Jamie Green has elected to travel nine of his Blue Devils in the form of a five-man lineup and four individuals.

After tying a season-best finish in the Valspar Collegiate with a T-3 result, Alex Smalley will lead the Blue Devils’ lineup heading into this weekend’s play. Smalley posted three consecutive rounds of under-par golf to move him to seven-under for the tournament and push his scoring average to a team-best 70.81.

Chandler Eaton will come in at No. 2, having carded a five-over 218 in Palm City. The sophomore brings with him a 71.90 stroke average.

Teammates Ben Silverman and Adrien Pendaries will hold down the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively.

Silverman is making his spring debut for Duke and will aim to top his best finish of the year, a T-6 finish in the Hummingbird Intercollegiate.

Pendaries will continue his freshman campaign having boasted a top-10 and top-20 finish already thus far.

Senior Adam Wood make his return to the five-man lineup for the first time since the team’s opening tournament of the spring (Sea Best Invitational). Wood currently owns a low round of 66—second best for the Blue Devils this season—which came in the first day of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational last fall, an event that saw Wood snatch his best 2017-18 finish to date (T-10).

Shrish Dwivedi, Steven DiLisio, freshmen Evan Katz and Qi wen Wong will represent Duke as individuals.

Live scoring will be available via birdiefire.com, and recaps will be posted at the conclusion of both days of action.
