DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women’s golfer Leona Maguire continues her busy summer of playing this week as the senior will tee it up at the Ricoh Women’s British Open from Aug. 3-6 at Kingsbarns Golf Links in Fife, Scotland.
Maguire earned the invitation to compete in the British Open after winning the 114th Ladies’ British Open Amateur in June at the Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club. Currently the No. 1 ranked amateur golfer in the world, Maguire recently competed in the U.S. Women’s Open and the LPGA Marathon Classic, but missed the cut in both events.
Last year, Maguire played in the British Open and turned in rounds of 71, 70, 68 and 75 to place tied for 25th with a four-under-par, 284. It was her highest finish in a professional event.
Maguire will kick off the event with a 7:25 a.m., tee time along with Catriona Matthew and Anna Nordqvist on Aug. 3.
Former Duke golfers Brittany Lang and Lindy Duncan will also be participating in the British Open.
Fans can follow the action via live scoring at www.LPGA.com as well with television coverage via the Golf Channel and NBC. On Aug. 3-4, Golf Channel will air live from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Aug. 5 Golf Channel will have coverage from 7-11 am and on Aug. 6 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. NBC will close the coverage on Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Aug. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
