CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Both Jaravee Boonchant and Virginia Elena Carta saw their runs at the 2017 U.S. Women’s Amateur come to an end Thursday in the match play round of 32, which was being contested played at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.

Boonchant, a product of Bangkok, Thailand, played a solid round of through 14 holes as she was one-over-par, but her opponent, Lauren Stephenson, made three birdies over a four-hole stretch on the back nine to move ahead and win 4&3.

The runner-up from a year ago, Carta was even par on the day and all square in her match with Karen Miyamoto through seven holes, but bogeys on No. 8, No. 10 and No. 12 led to a 3-down deficit she could not overcome. She ended up falling 2&1, after halving holes 14-17.

Both Boonchant and Carta will have a chance to take some time off before heading to Durham at the end of the month for the 2017-18 Duke women’s golf campaign.
