VENICE, Fla. – The Duke tandem of Sandy Choi and Leona Maguire placed in the top nine of the LPGA Stage II Qualifying Tournament following 72 holes of action at the Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida, on both the Bobcat and Panther courses.
Choi, a 2017 Duke graduate and native of Seoul, South Korea, collected rounds of 69, 69, 70 and 72 for an eight-under-par, 280 to tie for fifth. Maguire, a Blue Devil senior out of Cavan, Ireland, carded a seven-under-par, 281, to tie for ninth. She notched rounds of 70, 69, 70 and 72.
Georgia Hall turned in three straight rounds in the 60s to win individual medalist honors with a 12-under-par, 276.
With the duo finishing in the top 80, they advance to stage III qualifying, which will take place Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Both Choi and Maguire will now have full Symetra Tour membership as well for the 2018 campaign. Maguire is not expected to attend stage III qualifying to remain in school and graduate in May from Duke.
Maguire will return to campus and travel this week to Wilmington, N.C., as Duke will compete in the Landfall Tradition, which will take place Oct. 27-29.
