GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC Office announced Wednesday Duke University senior Leona Maguire has been selected the ACC Co-Women’s Golfer of the Month for October along with Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho.
The honor for Maguire is the second in as many months and marks the eighth time in her collegiate career she has earned ACC Golfer of the Month accolades.
A native of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire carded a 70.13 stroke average to go along with one victory and two top 10 finishes in three tournaments during the month of October. Maguire registered seven even or under par rounds out of eight and led Duke to team victories at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational and The Landfall Tradition over highly ranked opponents, including second-ranked Alabama.
Maguire carded rounds of 69, 66 and 69 at the Tar Heel Invitational on her way to winning her ninth collegiate tournament. Her score of 12-under-par set a tournament record. She also tied for ninth at both The Landfall Tradition and the Windy City Classic.
Winner of two individual titles and a 69.18 stroke average on the season, Maguire is currently the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world and No. 9 in the Golfweek Individual Collegiate listing.
Duke will next compete Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Golf Club from Feb. 11-13 in Palos Verdes, Calif.
