DURHAM, N.C. – With the final fall Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking list released Thursday, three Blue Devil women’s golfers were among the top 16 on the International ledger. The top six golfers in the final spring ranking will be selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup July 6-8, 2018.
The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup will be the first using the expanded format of United States men’s and women’s collegiate golfers versus their counterparts from around the world.
A native of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire totaled a 69.18 stroke average in the fall, while winning the Jim West Challenge and the Tar Heel Invitational. The two-time National Player of the Year and current World No. 1 ranked amateur golfer, collected five rounds in the 60s and a 25-under-par ledger this fall.
Boonchant, who has stepped in as a rookie and made an immediate impact this season, registered a 70.27 stroke average in the fall. She notched one top five finish, two top 10 and four top 20 finishes out of four tournaments. Boonchant, who is from Bangkok, Thailand, combined to shoot 13-under-par and only shot over par in two rounds in the fall.
Coming off notching her first collegiate victory at the Landfall Tradition, Belac turned in an excellent fall season with a 70.55 stroke average. She placed tied third at the Jim West Challenge with three straight rounds in the 60s. Belac, a product of Portoroz, Slovenia, registered rounds of 66 and 69 for a nine-under-par, 135, to share medalist honors at the Landfall Tradition.
Using Golfstat’s NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.
The remaining six men’s and women’s spots for the United States will consist of five committee selections, including at least one non-Division I golfer, and a coaches pick. The balance of the International team will include the men’s and women’s winners of The R&A Scholars Tournament, four committee selections and a coaches pick.
