DURHAM, N.C. – A trio of Duke women’s golf student-athletes -- Ana Belac, Jaravee Boonchant and Gina Kim -- have received preseason recognition from Golfweek’s Lance Ringler with the announcement of its first, second and third team All-America selections for the 2018-19 campaign.
Kim, a freshman from Chapel Hill, N.C., was tabbed Second Team All-America, while also being listed No. 2 on the top 10 freshman list by Golfweek’s Kevin Casey.
A two-time AJGA First Team All-America, Kim enters collegiate action coming off a busy summer competing in the U.S. Women’s Open, Toyota Junior World Cup, U.S. Women’s Amateur, Canadian Women’s Amateur among others. She was the No. 3 incoming freshman nationally in the Golfweek Girls rankings. Kim was a two-time winner on the AJGA at the 2016 Rolex Girls Junior Championship and 2014 AJGA Junior at Cattail Creek, while collecting 27 top-10 finishes on the AJGA since 2012.
Both Belac and Boonchant were listed on the preseason Golfweek Third Team All-America listing.
Belac, a junior from Portoroz, Slovenia, is coming off a sophomore season where she earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades. She registered her first collegiate victory at the Landfall Tradition with rounds of 66 and 69, while finishing the season with a career-best 72.38 stroke average. Belac notched three top-five finishes on the year.
A Third Team All-America as a freshman, Boonchant is coming off totaling a 71.62 stroke average as a rookie for the Blue Devils. She posted two top-five and six top 10 placements a year ago and lost in a playoff to Leona Maguire in the ACC Championship. Boonchant registered 23 rounds of even or under par, which was the fourth-most by a Blue Devil in school history.
As a team, Duke was tabbed No. 4 overall in the Golfweek preseason national rankings as head coach Dan Brooks enters his 35th season with the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils will open the 2018-19 season at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Sept. 17-19 in Lake Elmo, Minn.
