FORT WORTH, Texas – Duke University incoming freshman Erica Shepherd birdied three out of the last five holes on her way to placing second at the Kathy Whitworth Invitational, which was held Monday and Tuesday at the Mira Vista Golf Course in Fort Worth, Texas.
Shepherd, who hails from Greenwood, Ind., turned in back-to-back rounds of 70 to finish with a two-under, 140. She finished one stroke behind Bohyun Park, who carded rounds of 67 and 72 for a three-under, 139.
In round one, Shepherd notched six birdies on her way to carding a one-under, 70, Monday. She followed that up with four birdies Tuesday, after waiting out a weather delay in the morning.
With the runner-up finish, Shepherd has turned in two straight second place ledgers as she finished runner-up at the Buick Shanshan Feng AJGA Girls Invitational last month.
Shepherd will next compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur April 3-6 along with four other Blue Devils – Jaravee Boonchant, Ana Belac, Virginia Elena Carta and Gina Kim in Augusta, Ga.
