DURHAM, N.C. – The fifth-ranked Duke women’s golf team is set to return to the links this weekend as the Blue Devils travel to Hilton Head, S.C., to compete in the Seventh Annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, which will be played on the 6,160-yard, par 71 Pete Dye Course at the Long Cove Club.
The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will feature six teams ranked in the top 10 of the GolfStat ledger and a total of 10 top 25 squads. Included in the field is Alabama (2), Arkansas (3), Duke (5), Arizona State (6), South Carolina (8), Furman (9), Northwestern (13), Oklahoma State (14), Virginia (20), Wake Forest (23), Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Tee times will kick off Friday and Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m., while Sunday will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Last season, the Blue Devils carded rounds of 286, 287 and 288 for a nine-under-par, 861, to finish second behind Alabama (859). Four Blue Devils finished in the top six led by Sandy Choi with a two-over, 215. Duke last won the event in 2015 with a six-over, 858, while senior Leona Maguire won the individual title in a playoff. Duke also claimed the team title in 2014, while rookie Yu Liu won the individual crown.
In the latest Golfweek Individual rankings, Leona Maguire is No. 12, while Boonchant (24), Belac (27), Virginia Elena Carta (76) and Wang (91) are listed in the top 100. The Blue Devils are currently ranked No. 5 nationally as a team in both the Golfweek and GolfStat ledgers.
