HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Boosted by a three-under-par, 69, by sophomore Ana Belac in the final round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, the fifth-ranked Duke women’s golf team continued to move up the leaderboard at the 6,160-yard, par 71 Pete Dye Course at the Long Cove Club.

The Blue Devils turned in a four-over-par, 288, in the final round, which was tied for the lowest of the day on their way to placing fourth overall with a 27-over, 879. Duke carded rounds of 295, 296 and 288 over the three days.

Alabama won the team title with a 14-over, 866, while Arkansas (874), Wake Forest (878), Duke (879), Northwestern (886), Furman (891), Auburn (898), North Carolina (898), South Carolina (899) and LSU (900) rounded out the top 10.

Belac and the rest of the Blue Devils battled cold and windy conditions Sunday as a trio of Duke golfers finished in the top 15 of the final leaderboard. Freshman Jaravee Boonchant placed tied sixth, senior Leona Maguire was 10th and Belac moved from 38th to 15th in the final round.

A native of Portoroz, Slovenia, Belac turned in four straight pars to open the day, before turning in a birdie on No. 5 and her team-best second eagle of the season on the 520-yard, par five sixth. Belac rolled in a 15-footer for birdie on No. 5 and then pitched in for eagle from 45 yards on the sixth to move into the red numbers at three-under. She suffered her only bogey of the day on No. 9 and then had pars on the final nine holes. Belac hit every green and two-putted on each of the last seven holes. She hit 15 greens, 11 fairways and had 30 putts on the day. The top 20 finish was her fourth of the season.

Belac’s three-under, 69, Sunday matched the lowest round of the day along with Arkansas’ Maria Fassi, who won the individual title with a three-under-par, 210.

Boonchant, who is from Bangkok, Thailand, turned in an even-par, 71, in the final round to card her second top 10 finish of the season with rounds of 71, 75 and 71 for a four-over, 217. She had bogeys on No. 1 and No. 5 to kick off her day, but responded with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes to get back to even par. Boonchant closed with seven pars, one birdie on No. 15 and one bogey on No. 17.  She hit 12 fairways, 13 greens and totaled 29 putts.

With her 31st career top 10 finish, Maguire needs one more to a tie Duke standout Lindy Duncan on the Blue Devil charts. Maguire collected rounds of 72, 74 and 72 for a five-over, 218, to finish 10th. In Sunday’s final round, she was limited to one birdie on No. 16 to go along with 15 pars and two bogeys.

Coming off a round of 73 Saturday, freshman Miranda Wang closed with a 77 to finish tied 40th. Wang, who hails from Beijing, China, collected birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 as she played her final six holes at one-under-par.  She hit 11 fairways, 12 greens and had 34 putts on the day.

Lisa Maguire placed tied 46th with rounds of 76, 75 and 76 for a 227. Maguire, who is from Cavan, Ireland, totaled birdies on No. 8 and No. 10 and was only one-over through 10 holes. She had a triple-bogey on the 364-yard, par four 14th and concluded with a 76. Maguire hit six greens, 11 fairways and notched a team-best 25 putts.

Duke collected nine birdies in the final round and a total of 31 over the three days for the Birdies for Babies program designed to raise money for the Duke Children’s Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units.

The Blue Devils will next compete in the Evans Derby Experience March 18-20 in Auburn, Ala.
