DURHAM, N.C. –  Duke Women’s Golf Head Coach Dan Brooks announced the addition of Kim Donovan on Tuesday to the Blue Devil golf program.  The Hopkinton, Mass., product will attend Duke in the fall of 2007.

“Kim is first of all a great person, is very diligent and works hard on both her game and academics,” said Brooks.  “She was selected as the player representative for the AJGA and they are very selective with picking those student-athletes.  I am most excited about the character she brings to the team and she is also obviously a very good golfer.”

Donovan, who was a 2005 First Team Rolex Junior All-America, owns two career American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) titles since 2005, while registering 11 top-20 finishes.  A 2005 U.S. PING Junior Solheim Cup Team and 2005 Canon Cup East Team member, Donovan is currently ranked 28th in the Golfweek/Titleist Performance Index for junior golfers and 46th in the Polo Golf Junior rankings.  In February, Donovan finished second at the Verizon Junior Heritage with rounds of 70, 74.

“She most recently finished second at the Verizon Heritage Junior Golf Tournament,” said Brooks.  “That was a great field in some bad weather so she is a very strong player.  I think the best golf is yet to come with Kim and she has all kinds of potential.”

In 2005, Donovan had her best year of her career on the AJGA tour as she collected a victory at the AJGA Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan and won the 22nd Annual Scott Robertson Memorial.  She also posted top-10 finishes at the Thunderbird International Junior, Ringhold Telephone Company Junior Classic, Rolex Girls Junior Championship and Rolex Tournament of Champions.  Her most recent victory came at the 2006 AJGA Lessings’s Junior Classic where she notched rounds of 72-71-65 for a 208 score.

Donovan Attends Hopkinton High School and plays for Head Coach Dick Bliss.  She led Hopkinton to back-to-back Division II State Championships as well being named two-time MVP of the Tri-Valley League.  Donovan was selected Rookie of the Year for Hopkinton H.S. in 2004.

Duke returns four of five regular starters in 2007-08 including All-ACC selections Amanda Blumenherst, Jennifer Pandolfi, Jennie Lee and Alison Whitaker.  The Blue Devils will feature a roster of seven golfers that also includes rising sophomores Rebecca Kim and Yu Young Lee.
