DURHAM, N.C. – One of the best to don the Duke women’s soccer shirt will be making her way to France this summer for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as former Blue Devil Kayla McCoy was named to Jamaica’s official roster on Wednesday.

McCoy becomes the second Blue Devil in program history to make her way to a WWC squad, joining Rebecca Smith (1999-2002). Smith captained the New Zealand squad in 2007 to the WWC finals.

The former Duke standout is one of 23 players who make up the Jamaica roster, which is the first Caribbean nation to qualify in the tournament’s history. Jamaica will open its historic appearance in the WWC against Brazil on June 9 at 9:30 a.m. ET in Grenoble, Italy. The team will round out group play against Italy (June 14, 12 p.m.) in Reims and Australia (June 18, 3 p.m.) in Grenoble. All matches will be broadcast through Fox Sports and Telemundo Deportes in the United States.

McCoy made the most of her final season with the Blue Devils in 2018, leading the team with 12 goals and 32 points, along with eight assists. The All-ACC First Team selection went on a tear through the league slate, recording a league-high eight goals and posting 19 points, good for second in the conference. McCoy, who recorded at least one point in all but six matches this season, also made strides up the DWS record book. The forward finished third with 15-career game-winning goals, fourth with 38 scores and 92 points and fifth with five multi-goal performances. She was also one of the most decorated Blue Devils in NCAA Tournament history, finishing second in program history in postseason play with 18 points, third with seven goals and tied for seventh with four assists.
