DURHAM, N.C. – Following leading the Duke women’s golf program to a seventh NCAA Championship last month, Blue Devil head coach Dan Brooks has received another National Coach of the Year accolade as Golfweek announced this week he was the recipient of the top honor.

It marks the fourth time Brooks has received Golfweek National Coach of the Year and the first since 2007. Overall, Brooks has been selected National Coach of the Year a total of seven times since 1999 by either WGCA or Golfweek.

Brooks took a team with one senior, one junior, two sophomores and one freshman to Arkansas for the NCAA Championship and played their best golf at the right time of the year. The Blue Devils placed second in the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championship, before registering wins against Stanford, Arizona and Wake Forest to claim the NCAA title.

Duke finished no lower than sixth in 10 tournaments in 2018-19, while winning two tournaments in the fall. The Blue Devils headed into the NCAA Championship yet to win a spring tournament. Brooks came into the season having to replace one of the all-time greats in the program with the loss of two-time National Player of the Year, Leona Maguire.

Recently completing his 35th campaign with the Blue Devils, Brooks has led Duke to seven NCAA Championships over the last 21 years. He became the first men’s or women’s head coach to lead a squad to a NCAA title in stroke and match play.

His seven NCAA Championships is the most by a women’s golf head coach with the next closest being Linda Vollstedt of Arizona State with five. Brooks now owns 136 career tournament victories, which continues to be a NCAA Division I record. As a team, Duke was ranked No. 1 during the spring season to mark the 11th time over the last 19 seasons the Blue Devils have been listed No. 1 nationally.
