DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 49 Duke men’s tennis team ends the regular season Sunday with a doubleheader against conference opponent No. 29 Florida State for senior day at 1 p.m. and non-conference neighbor NC Central at 6 p.m. at Ambler Tennis Stadium*.
*due to rain in the forecast, the match may be moved inside to Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center

Senior Farewell
Before the Florida State match, Duke will say farewell to its four seniors prior to first serve on center court. The four seniors being recognized are Ryan Dickerson, Jason Lapidus, Vincent Lin and Catalin Mateas.

Lapidus Breaks Record
The senior broke the record for individual ACC doubles appearances Wednesday against NC State with his 44th career ACC match. Lapidus broke Dylan Arnould’s record of 43 set back in 2007-2010.

Three Straight for Sculley
Sophomore Sean Sculley has won three straight singles appearances, dating back to April 5 against No. 22 Notre Dame. The Hilton Head, S.C., native is 6-7 in dual-singles this season.

Duke at Home vs FSU, N.C. Central Away
The Blue Devils own a 7-3 record in Durham, while Florida State is 1-5 away from Tallahassee and NC Central is 1-4 on the road.

Duke This Season
The No. 49 Blue Devils are 10-12 overall and 4-7 in the ACC. Lin leads the team in dual-singles wins with 10 (10-7), and has won five of his last six decisions. Junior Spencer Furman (9-10) and Mateas (9-11) both have nine dual singles wins to their credit this year, while junior No. 99 Nick Stachowiak has eight (8-6). In doubles play, Lapidus leads the squad with 12 dual doubles victories (12-8), while also boasting an 8-5 record on court number one. The pair of Furman and junior Robert Levine have totaled a 6-2 record this season and are 5-1 at the number three position.

Florida State History
Duke leads the all-time series 30-14 against the Seminoles. Florida State are winners of two straight against Duke and have won three of the last five. These two teams met twice last season, the latest coming in the ACC Quarterfinals in Cary, N.C., a match Florida State won 4-1.

Scouting the Seminoles
Florida State is 16-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play. No. 41 Lucas Poullain leads the team in dual singles victories with 13 (13-3) and is 8-3 on court one. Joining Poullain in double-digit dual singles wins is Alex Knaff, who is 11-8 on the year and 5-0 on court one. Knaff and Aziz Dougaz are ranked No. 70 in doubles play, and own a 2-2 overall dual doubles record this season (all on court one). Sebastian Arcila and Knaff have teamed up for a 10-5 dual doubles showing, including a 10-4 record at the number one position.

N.C. Central History
Duke defeated the Eagles earlier this season, 7-0, on February 16. The Blue Devils are 14-0 all-time against their Durham neighbors, dating back to their first meeting in 1972.

Scouting the Eagles
N.C. Central is 4-11 overall on the season and owns a 3-1 record in the MEAC. Gabriel Cucalon leads the team in dual singles wins with a 10-4 record, all on court one. Thanos Spyropoulos is 6-8 in dual singles action, all on court four. Spyropoulos and Christos Dagklis are 4-8 in dual doubles this season as a pair.

Smith’s Take
“We talk all the time about finishing strong and we have a great opportunity to do that this weekend,” said head coach Ramsey Smith. “Our guys know the importance of these last two regular season matches and they are ready and excited for the challenge. Our best tennis is ahead of us and we are going to bring our best on Sunday.”

The Blue Devils will compete in the ACC Tournament Thursday. Their opponent and time is to be determined.
