DURHAM, N.C. – Following a lengthy break from matches, the Duke women’s tennis team returns to action Wednesday with the first of three contests in Florida. The Blue Devils begin the southern swing in Fort Myers, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Duke then gets back to ACC action with matches at Florida State and Miami.

Wednesday’s clash will be just the second true road match of the year for Duke, which downed N.C. State 5-2 in Raleigh on February 22.

Florida Gulf Coast Series History
Tuesday’s match will be the first in series history … Against all current members of the Atlantic Sun Conference, Duke is 2-0, having defeated North Florida and Stetson.

Scouting the Eagles
Florida Gulf Coast, in the midst of a five-match home stand, has been led by Maja Ornberg, who is 5-3 on court one and 9-5 overall … Breana Stampfli has filled the No. 2 position for the majority of the season, going 6-3 there … Julia Ascua has been solid in the third spot with a 6-3 record … Laura Falceto Font owns the top dual match mark on the squad with a 5-1 ledger from court four … In doubles, Ascua and Julianna Curtis are 6-3 on court one while Ornberg and Stampfli have gone 6-3 on court two.

Duke Unbeaten in Recent First-Time Meetings
The Blue Devils will face Florida Gulf Coast for the first time Wednesday afternoon … Since the start of the 2013 dual match season, Duke is 8-0 in first-time meetings … During the span, the Blue Devils own victories against East Tennessee State, Elon, Fresno State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Portland, Texas Tech and Wyoming.

Unbeaten at No. 3
Duke freshman Meible Chi and senior Chalena Scholl have combined to post a 6-0 mark on court three this season … Chi is 2-0 there while Scholl is 4-0 … During the 2016 campaign the Blue Devils combined for a 15-6 record (.714 winning percentage) at No. 3 … The winning percentage was Duke’s second best on any court last season, trailing only a .737 mark on court six.

Hunting the Doubles Point
Duke heads into this week’s road trip looking for its first doubles point since February 11 against No. 15 Texas A&M … The Blue Devils had taken the early 1-0 lead in four of its first six matches before its current three-match skid … Duke has won two of its last three matches despite trailing early.

The 4-3 Victory
Duke’s last match was a 4-3 victory against No. 15 TCU on February 25 … Of the Blue Devils’ nine matches this season, four have been a 4-3 outcome, with Duke winning three of those decisions ... The lone 4-3 loss was to No. 15 Texas A&M on February 11 at the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship … Against Northwestern on January 29, the Blue Devils trailed 3-2 before Rebecca Smaller and Chi recorded wins … In the rematch against the Wildcats on February 5, the contest was even at 3-3 before Smaller’s 7-5, 7-6 (5) win versus Brooke Rischbieth on court six … Scholl came up with the winning point on court three against TCU, coming back to top Olaya Garrido-Rivas 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-4 … The three 4-3 victories match the Blue Devils’ total from the 2016 campaign.

Chi Approaches Duke Freshman Singles Wins Chart
With a 6-2, 6-2 win versus No. 94 Seda Arantekin of TCU in her last match, Chi recorded her 22nd singles triumph of the year, eight shy from a spot on the Duke freshman singles wins chart … Vanessa Webb owns the record with 51 wins in 1996 … The last Blue Devils to crack the list were Beatrice Capra and Monica Turewicz with 32 victories in 2012.

Among the ITA Rankings
The Blue Devils check in at No. 15 in the latest Oracle/ITA ledger … Duke has four ranked singles players, led by Chi at No. 23 ... Scholl checks in as No. 42 while Kaitlyn McCarthy is No. 79 and Samantha Harris joins the ranked group, debuting this season at No. 90 … The Blue Devils also have two doubles teams with Chi and McCarthy at No. 34 and Scholl and McCarthy are No. 62.
