PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Members of the Duke women’s tennis team continued play at the 2018 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Tuesday in the qualifying draw of singles and doubles competition.
Junior Meible Chi got off to a quick start Tuesday afternoon in Pacific Palisades, Calif., with two victories in the singles qualifying draw. Chi, ranked No. 31 in the preseason ITA poll, defeated Vanderbilt’s Amanda Meyer (6-1, 6-2) before going on to down McCartney Kessler of Florida (6-3, 6-3) later in the afternoon. Chi will face either Florida State’s Ana Oparenovic or Alabama’s Andie Daniel.
Hitting the courts for the first time as doubles pairs today was sophomore Kelly Chen and freshman Maria Mateas. The duo, ranked No. 35 in the preseason ITA poll, saw success early in the doubles qualifying draw by defeating Stacey Fung and Vanessa Wong of Washington, 8-7(6), and will take on Old Dominion’s Holly Hutchinson and Brooke Pilkington Wednesday.
