Ashworth Inks Bilokin for Spring Slate

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women’s tennis head coach Jamie Ashworth announced the signing of Margaryta Bilokin Friday as Bilokin will join the Blue Devils for the spring portion of the 2018-19 campaign.

“We’re very excited to have Margo join our program,” Ashworth said. “It’s great to have eight girls that can really compete and fight. Margo brings a lot of international experience to our program. She’s traveled around the world and has had a lot of success. She also adds depth to our program and brings a lot of personality off the court. We’re excited and the girls are excited to have her. It’s a great boost for us to add someone of her caliber just before the season.”

Bilokin comes to Durham from New Canaan, Conn., and participated in online school with Florida Virtual High School.

“I am so excited to be part of such a great team,” Bilokin said. “The strength of a team is determined by each individual member, and I’m looking forward to this upcoming spring season!”

Bilokin, a blue-chip recruit according to, has a wealth of international experience as she most recently competed at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and at several Junior Grand Slams, including the 2017 and 2018 US Open and the 2018 French Open. Bilokin also owns a career high of 20 in juniors from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), was the top player in New England and Connecticut and was ranked No. 1 on TennisRecruiting.

What has been your favorite tennis memory?
“To be able to compete at the Youth Olympics and watch the opening ceremony. I also got to meet many talented athletes from other sports and countries. Being able to play at Grand Slams has also been an unforgettable experience since I got to meet all the pros and watch them play live.”

Why did you choose Duke?
Duke has an outstanding tennis and academic program, as they are one of the best teams in the country.”

Goals upon graduation: Play professional tennis and get into medical school

Bilokin and the fourth-ranked Blue Devils will open the 2019 slate Saturday, Jan. 12, against ninth-ranked Oklahoma State in The Bahamas.
