DURHAM, N.C. – For the first time in NCAA program history, the fifth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team will host 12th-ranked NC State Friday, May 10 at 6 p.m., for a Sweet 16 matchup in Ambler Tennis Stadium. The Blue Devils host their first NCAA Super Regional after switching up the national championship format.

The winner of Friday’s contest will advance to the Elite 8 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Tickets are available online here and on-site prior to Friday’s match. Included in the ticket is access to a free cookout outside the stadium. Fans will be welcome to burgers, hot dogs and chips as part of admission.

SERIES VERSUS NC STATE

The Blue Devils have dominated the series with the Wolfpack as they own a 60-1 record. The two ACC foes met once this year in the regular season as Duke came away with a 5-2 victory at home in Ambler.

SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK

Friday marks NC State’s first NCAA Championship Sweet 16 appearance. NC State maintained its No. 12 ranking in the latest edition of the Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings. In doubles, Rogers and Smith are the seventh-ranked duo, tying Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin and Bhambri and Nagaraj for the highest doubles ranking in program history. Rogers checks in at No. 10 in the rankings, and teammate Smith is ranked No. 71.

STRONG AT HOME

Duke is 29-1 in NCAA Championship matches at home. Duke has also won 40 straight matches at home, dating back to a 4-2 loss to Texas in the 2016 NCAA Championship. With a victory this weekend, Duke would complete the ninth undefeated home campaign under Ashworth. Overall, Duke is 105-8 (.929) at home over the last eight seasons.

DUKE IN THE RANKINGS

Duke features several players on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s singles and doubles list. Freshman Maria Mateas garnered the highest Blue Devil ranking at No. 11, followed by sophomore Kelly Chen (No. 21) and junior Meible Chi (No. 33).

Mateas is 12-9 this season, followed by Chen (20-4) and Chi (13-3). The Blue Devils are led by Ellyse Hamlin with a 22-2 overall record.

BLUE DEVILS IN THE NCAA TEAM TOURNAMENT

Following last weekend’s first and second rounds of the team tournament, seven Blue Devils have experience playing on the national stage. Here’s a closer look at the seven’s singles and doubles record prior to Friday’s match:

FIVE IN THE NCAA INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT

Five Blue Devils earned bids to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship. In singles, Chen, Chi and Mateas will represent Duke on the national stage. The senior duo of Hamlin and Kaitlyn McCarthy will also team up for Duke’s lone doubles pair.

NCAA TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP PARKING INFORMATION

General Public Parking for NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship – General Public parking for the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship will be located in the Blue Zone Lots on Wannamaker Drive off of Duke University Road (GPS Address: 2300 Duke University Road). There is no charge to park. For Friday’s Super Regional match, the Blue Zone Lots will open at 4:00 PM.

Accessible Parking for NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship – Accessible parking for guests with disabilities for the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship will be located in the Card Lot on Towerview Road (GPS Address: 320 Towerview Road). There is no charge to park. For Friday’s Super Regional match, the Card Lot will open at 4:00 PM. An accessible drop-off/pick-up point is available in the Card Lot located immediately outside the general public entrance to Ambler Tennis Stadium. Please speak to the parking lot attendant for access for accessible parking or drop-off/pick-up.
