DURHAM, N.C. – As a part of the 2016-2017 edition of Inside Duke Sports with Kevin White, co-hosts Kevin White – Duke’s Vice President, Director of Athletics and an Adjunct Professor of Business Administration - and John Roth recently welcomed the Chairman of Duke’s Board of Trustees David Rubenstein to the show for the season’s final episode. During the segment, which aired on Reunion Weekend, the trio discussed Rubenstein’s involvement with the University and his upcoming speech at commencement in May.
Rubenstein, a co-founder and co-CEO of the Carlyle Group—one of the world’s largest private equity firms—as well as a 1970 magna cum laude graduate of Duke, has been a generous donor to and engaged with his alma mater as a result of what the university once did for him.
“When I went to Duke, I got a scholarship,” Rubenstein observed, “and if I hadn’t gotten a scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to go to a college like Duke. I’m always grateful for what Duke did for me in giving me an education that enabled me to become later what I was able to become.”
In addition, Rubenstein discussed what makes Duke so unique, his visions for the university’s future and how he plans to contribute to its growth.
