Pickens and Helgadottir Named All-America By SoccerTimes.Com

DURHAM, N.C. (Jan. 22) - Two members of the Duke University women's soccer team have received post-season honors from SoccerTimes.com, a website dedicated to professional and collegiate soccer. Junior forward Sarah Pickens (Greensboro, N.C.) and freshman goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) have been named Honorable Mention All-America.

Pickens, a first team All-ACC, second team NSCAA Southeast Region, and third team Southeast Region selection by SoccerBuzz.com, led the Blue Devils in goals scored with nine and was tied for the lead in points with 21. Pickens netted four game-winning goals in 2000, which was tied for the team lead.

Helgadottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) was a second team NSCAA Southeast Region selection and a third-team Freshmen All-America selection by SoccerBuzz.com She appeared in 18 games for the Blue Devils while accumulating a 1.26 goals against average and an 8-5-1 won/loss record. Helgadottir was also selected to the ACC All-Freshmen team and was an ACC All-Tournament selection and was named to Soccer America's team of the week on Oct. 11 and Nov. 8.

The Duke University women's soccer team finished the season with a 14-8-1 overall record and lost to Clemson University 2-1 in overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
