DURHAM, N.C. – A number of former Duke women’s soccer stars are getting set to open up the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League season this weekend, with a trio of Blue Devils named to opening day rosters.
Imani Dorsey (Sky Blue FC), Rebecca Moros (Utah Royals FC) and Morgan Reid (Orlando Pride) were all tabbed to their club’s respective opening day rosters. Dorsey and Sky Blue FC will be the first to open the year, taking on the Washington Spirit on Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. ET in Maryland. Reid and the Pride open their 2019 campaign on Sunday, April 14 against Portland Thorns FC at 5 p.m., while Moros and Utah Royals FC take on the Spirit on Saturday, April 20 at 9 p.m.
Dorsey, the 2018 NWSL Rookie of the Year, begins her second season in the professional ranks after a freshman campaign to remember. The player in Duke history to receive the NWSL’s honor for top rookie tallied four goals and an assist in 13 appearances. In 1,047 minutes, Dorsey created 11 chances with 16 shots on target, while posting a 74.4 percent passing accuracy (332 passes).
Moros begins her 11th season in the pros and her second with Utah in 2019. The midfielder capped Utah’s inaugural campaign starting in 22 matches and seeing 1,868 minutes of action. Moros’ presence was most felt on the defensive side of the ball, as she made 42 clearances and 47 interceptions while calculating a 77 percent success rate in her tackles. She also tallied a 73.1 percent success rate in her passes, helping facilitate an offense that produced 22 goals.
Reid enters her second season in the NWSL and first with the Pride after being traded from the North Carolina Courage on April 4. The defender was called up several times throughout her rookie season and was on the active roster for a pair of NWSL matchups for the Courage, as they captured a second-straight NWSL Shield and the first NWSL Playoff Championship. Reid also saw time during the Courage’s run to the International Champions Cup, where they defeated Paris St. Germain Femenines and Olympique Lyonnais Feminin to capture the first ever Women’s ICC title.
Along with the three Blue Devils getting the nod on opening day, former Duke All-American Kayla McCoy is gearing up for her rookie season in the league. McCoy was taken with the 18th overall pick in the 2019 NWSL Draft by the Houston Dash in January.
