DURHAM, N.C. – Duke safety Jeremy McDuffie excelled in a second sport this spring, spending time with the Blue Devil track & field program. Last weekend at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Atlanta, McDuffie earned All-ACC accolades after placing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and fifth in the triple jump.

“We are incredibly proud of Jeremy's accomplishments at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Atlanta,” Blue Devil assistant football coach Matt Guerrieri said. “He continues to perform at a championship level on the field, track, and in the classroom. Jeremy is a gifted athlete who is a terrific representative of both programs and we could not be happier watching him succeed in both sports.”

McDuffie posted a time of 14.29 in Saturday's preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles, good for the second-fastest mark in Duke history. In Sunday's championship race, he posted a time of 14.35.

In the triple jump, McDuffie collected a second All-ACC honor with a fifth-place showing thanks to a leap of 50-9.25.

“The thing that stands out about Jeremy is his competitiveness,” Duke track & field associate head coach Shawn Wilbourn said. “He's able to line up against the guy next to him and just compete. You can see that he believes he's going to win. That's a quality that's hard to teach.”

Also a member of the men's 4x100m relay, McDuffie teamed with JR Smith, Brett Bofinger and Tionne Barmer in Sunday's final to register the fourth-fastest time in school history. Members of the sprint flock finished seventh in the finals in 41.41.

With the football program this spring, McDuffie was named the squad's co-most improved defensive player and will enter the season as a starter in the defensive backfield. He transitioned from cornerback to safety this spring after booking 17 tackles last season.
