DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke University women’s basketball redshirt senior trio of Lexie Brown, Bego Faz Davalos and Rebecca Greenwell kicked off their Fuqua School of Business academic calendar Monday, July 17. The Blue Devils had their first day of class in the Master of Management Studies (MMS) Foundations of Business one year program.
Both Brown and Greenwell received their Duke degrees this past May as Brown obtained a sociology degree and Greenwell collected a psychology degree. The duo also graduated with a markets and management certificates. Davalos received a business administration marketing degree from Fresno State in May.
In her first season after transferring to Duke, Brown featured a solid season averaging 18.3 points, 3.9 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals. The 5-9 native of Suwanee, Ga., received Associated Press All-America accolades for her efforts. Brown became just the fourth Blue Devil to collect 200 made field goals and over 100 assists in school history.
Greenwell, who hails from Owensboro, Ky., drained a career-best 83 three-pointers a year ago, while averaging 16.4 points, a team-high 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 steals. The 6-1 sharpshooter became just the second Duke guard to lead the Blue Devils in rebounding and the first since 1989-90. Greenwell totaled three games with 30 or more points and a total of 10 contests with 20 or more points.
A 6-3 center from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Davalos transferred to Duke this summer after playing the past three seasons at Fresno State. She is one of the top shot blockers in the nation swatting 346 shots over the last three years. The reigning two-time Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, Davalos is coming off averaging 14.6 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals as a junior. She ranked third nationally in blocks per game average and seventh in rebounding.
The 10-month MMS program is a jumpstart into the business world and prepares students to enter the field of finance, marketing, consulting or general management.
