DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior linebacker Koby Quansah has been named to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy. The award, known as college football’s premier award for community service, is presented by the Chick-fil-A Foundation in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.  Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Quansah, a 6-1, 230-pound Manchester, Conn., product, is charted as the starting middle linebacker for the Blue Devils. In 35 career games, he owns 102 tackles, 9.0 tackles for lost yardage, 1.0 sack, two caused fumbles, one fumble recovery, one pass breakup and six quarterback pressures. In addition to his candidacy for the Wuerffel Trophy, Quansah is Duke’s nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for excellence in community service.

Last fall, Quansah played in 10 games with two starts, against Army West Point and Temple in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl. He totaled 38 tackles, 4.0 TFL, one pass breakup and one quarterback pressure. He had two or more tackles in six games including a season-high 10 stops against Wake Forest in the regular season finale and secured a season-high 1.5 TFL versus the Demon Deacons.

Quansah begins the 2019 season having recorded one or more tackles in 20 straight contests and with a streak of three consecutive games with 1.0 or more TFL

In the classroom, Quansah is pursuing a degree in psychology and certificate in markets and management. He owns a grade-point average of 3.379.

Off campus, Quansah traveled to Antigua, Guatemala, in May of 2018 with a group of Duke football teammates and staff members. While in Guatemala, the Blue Devil volunteers assembled seven smokeless stoves and helped construct the basis of a house for a small family. Prior to the trip to Guatemala, he took part in the Duke Football program’s local Habitat for Humanity initiative, helping the organization with a building project in Durham throughout the summer. Quansah has also gone on trips with Team Tobati, an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged youth in Tobati, Paraguay. During the spring of 2013, before he was enrolled at Duke, and 2016, he helped construct classrooms and schools, and aided the medical infrastructure for the region’s poor.
