DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior center Austin Davis and redshirt senior offensive tackle Evan Lisle have been named to the preseason Outland Trophy Watch List. The award is given annually to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America. The selection is the first for either Davis or Lisle.

Davis has already been named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List as the honor is presented each year to the premier center in the nation. Davis is also a preseason All-ACC second team selection by Athlon Sports and a fourth team honoree by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.

The 6-4, 290-pound Mansfield, Texas, product has played in 25 career games with 12 starts and 996 total snaps. Davis earned Duke’s 2016 Dan “Tiger” Hill Award as the most outstanding offensive lineman after helping the Blue Devils finish the season as one of four ACC schools to complete at least 62 percent of its pass attempts along with a 2:1 TD-to-INT ratio, joining Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Davis anchored the offensive front as it helped produce four 200-200 performances as the Blue Devils posted 200 or more rushing and 200 or more passing yards versus N.C. Central, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. He also helped open holes for a rushing attack that rushed for 227 yards versus No. 15 North Carolina, 227 yards against No. 23 Virginia Tech and 254 yards at Georgia Tech, marking the first time during head coach David Cutcliffe’s tenure that the Blue Devils carded three consecutive games of 200+ rushing yards against ACC opponents.

Lisle, a 6-7, 310-pound native of Centerville, Ohio, is a graduate transfer set to make his Duke debut this fall. He was a four-year member of the football program at Ohio State from 2013-16. Lisle lettered two seasons for the Buckeyes while playing in 26 games in the 2015-16 seasons, helping Ohio State to a 23-3 record with Associated Press national poll finishes of No. 4 in 2015 and No. 6 in 2016.

Last fall Lisle played in all 13 games as the Buckeyes went 11-2, fell to eventual national champion Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals and earned a final national ranking of No. 6 from the Associated Press.

The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the annual FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects a 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner. Only interior linemen on offense or defense are eligible for the award; ends are not eligible.
