DURHAM, N.C. – Jason Cooper, who served as a captain of Duke’s football team in 1987, passed away this past Saturday at his home in Connecticut. He was 52.

Cooper, who lettered four seasons on the gridiron for the Blue Devils, also was a two-year letterman as a member of Duke’s lacrosse program. A tight end from New Canaan, Conn., Cooper played in 40 games during his career from 1984-87 and recorded 52 pass receptions for 986 yards and five touchdowns. Additionally, he helped the Blue Devil lacrosse team to 38 wins and a final national ranking of No. 13 in both 1986 and 1987 as a defenseman.

For the past four years, Cooper served as an assistant coach for both the football and women’s lacrosse programs at his alma mater, New Canaan High School. Prior to returning to his hometown, he worked in the finance field in Chicago, Ill.
