DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke football team held its final two-a-day practice on Wednesday to give them 12 practices in ten days of preseason camp.
The Blue Devils held a light practice in the morning in shorts and helmets. The squad put on shoulder pads for the night session as they continue to prepare for the season opener against James Madison at 7 p.m. on August 30 in Wallace Wade Stadium.
“It was good to go out there and just do a little bit of a walkthrough,” said junior quarterback Zack Asack. “We corrected some of the mistakes we saw on film from the two scrimmages. It was good to freshen things up.”
Asack has been one of the highlights from the two scrimmages this past week. He completed 10-of-15 passes for 88 yards and also rushed for a 29-yard touchdown in the first scrimmage on Saturday. He followed that performance by completing six-of-14 passes for 67 yards and one touchdown yesterday. Duke continues to install more of the offense as training camp goes on and the offense is improving each day as they learn more.
“I was pleased with the scrimmages,” said Asack. “There is still a lot I need to work on, especially with my mechanics in knowing where to go with the ball and getting the ball out of my hand quicker. Mastering the offense is a process but I am picking up more each day. Coach (Kurt) Roper and Coach (David) Cutcliffe are doing a good job of teaching it.”
The next scrimmage will be on Saturday, August 16 at 10:15 a.m. Following the scrimmage Duke will hold its annual Meet the Team Day in Wallace Wade Stadium. Fans can get autographs and have their pictures taken with the Blue Devils’ players and head coach.
