DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s starting libero each of the past three seasons, 2016 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, AVCA All-East Coast Region selection and First Team All-ACC honoree Sasha Karelov once again anchored the Duke back row this past season, leading the conference with 634 digs and a 5.42 digs-per-set average that also ranked eighth nationally.
The Raleigh, N.C., native picked up 20 or more digs on 15 occasions in 2016, including a program-record 44 digs Sept. 30 at Notre Dame.
For her career, Karelov became the third player in school history to reach 2,000 career digs, joining Ali McCurdy and Jenny Shull. Karelov averaged 4.52 digs per set for her career, good for fourth in the Duke record books and 10th all-time in ACC history.
In addition, her 2,023 career digs ranked third in school and ninth in ACC history.
