Volleyball Celebrates 2016 Season at Annual Banquet

DURHAM, N.C. – Following the 27th 20-win season in program history, the Duke volleyball program held its annual end-of-season banquet at Tobacco Road Sports Café to celebrate the 2016 team’s accomplishments.

At the culmination of the evening, the Blue Devil coaching staff recognized several Blue Devils for their accomplishments both on and off the court. Junior Anna Kropf earned the team’s Academic Award, given to the Blue Devil with the highest GPA for the 2016 year. Senior Jordan Tucker was the recipient of the Strength & Conditioning Award which honors excellence, leadership and commitment in the weight room. The staff selected junior Emma Paradiso to receive the Coaches Award for contributions and commitment to the team and Chloe DiPasquale as the squad's Most Improved Player.

In addition, the Blue Devils recognized team captains Karelov and Tucker, ACTION members Jessi Bartholomew, Cadie BatesLeah Meyer and Tucker, and SAAC representatives Kropf and Alyse Whitaker.

The Blue Devils ended the 2016 campaign with a 21-9 (15-5 ACC) record, finishing tied for third in the ACC. One of the most consistent ACC programs, Duke finished in the top three in the league standings for the 13th time in the past 16 seasons.

Duke also led the ACC and ranked fourth nationally in digs per set (18.31). AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, All-East Coast Region and All-ACC libero Karelov also surpassed 2,000 career digs for her distinguished career to become the third Blue Devil to reach that milestone.

Fellow team captain Tucker eclipsed milestones of her own, topping 1,000 career kills and 400 career blocks. The Prairie Village, Kan., native completed her career ranked fifth in program history in hitting percentage (.319), eighth in total blocks (401) and 14th in kills (1,186).
