DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Sasha Karelov, junior Anna Kropf and freshman Cindy Marina represented Duke on the 2016 All-ACC Academic Team as announced by the league Thursday.

Karelov earns the honor for the third time in her career while Kropf and Marina make their first All-ACC Academic Team appearances.

Florida State, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh led the league with four selections each, followed by Duke North Carolina and NC State’s three honorees apiece.

Duke’s starting libero, Karelov anchored the back row and collected 2016 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, AVCA Honorable Mention All-America, AVCA All-East Coast Region and First Team All-ACC honors to end her senior season. She led the conference with 634 digs and a 5.42 digs-per-set average that also ranked eighth nationally.

Kropf played in 23 of Duke’s 30 matches, seeing time at both rightside hitter and outside hitter. She knocked down a career-best 129 kills on 368 attempts while also totaling 28 blocks. Kropf hit .625 with 11 kills against LSU and collected Duke Invitational All-Tournament Team honors.

Marina, a setter from Temecula, Calif., played in every set this season to earn AVCA All-East Coast Honorable Mention and ACC All-Freshman Team honors. She led the league in assists per set (11.11) and totaled a team-high 27 service aces and 17 double-doubles.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The conference will release the ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, in July.
