Hello Duke VB fans!! Thanks for checking in to hear about our final days in Italy. On Saturday, we went to the Vatican early in the morning, walking through the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. We had our personal tour guide Anna Kropf helping us navigate and telling us all the interesting facts she knows about Roman history. We were all amazed at the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica were absolutely stunning, we didn't want to leave.
After the Vatican, we packed up the bus to our last match of the trip against an Italian club team called Volleyro. We played four sets again, winning 3-1! It was great to end our trip and our entire spring season on a win. It really reflected how hard we have worked throughout these past few months to prepare for next season.
Sunday was our last full day here in Rome, and we didn't have a volleyball match so we have the whole day to sightsee. We started the day by going to the Coliseum, which was unbelievably cool. We spent hours inside walking around and taking it all in. Afterwards, we walked to the Spanish steps and ate lunch there. We shopped for a few hours, picking up our last minute souvenirs to always remind us of this trip!
Our last meal together was undeniably the most special of them all. Emma Paradiso's family took us to a beautiful beach club right on the water to celebrate Emma's birthday tomorrow. We sat on big blankets in the sand and watched the sunset while eating and hanging out. We finished off with birthday cake to celebrate Emma, Natalie, Anna, and Coach Fred who all have birthdays in May. The sunset was magical, such a beautiful way to close out our last night together.
Italy was such an amazing experience for Duke VB. We are truly a special group of girls and spending a week in Italy has only helped us build a stronger bond. We are so excited to see what next season has in store for us!!
Thank you for following along with our adventures!! I can't wait to see you in Cameron in the fall cheering us on.
