DURHAM, N.C. – After leading the Blue Devils to an undefeated weekend, Duke volleyball outside hitter Payton Schwantz was named ACC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league Monday.

Schwantz knocked down double-digit kill in all three of Duke’s wins this past weekend to help the Blue Devils claim the Fight in the Fort at TCU title. She also garnered all-tournament team accolades for her efforts.

Schwantz led all players with 14 kills in Duke’s straight set victory over TCU Friday, then added 12 against Utah Valley and 11 against Lehigh Saturday.

The freshman from Frisco, Texas has surpassed double-digit kills in seven of Duke’s nine matches this season, including each of the past four. For the season, she leads the Blue Devils in both total kills (108) and kills per set (3.00).

Schwantz and the Blue Devils return to action Friday, Sept. 15 against Coastal Carolina. Opening serve is slated for 6:30 p.m., from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
