COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Incoming Blue Devil freshman Adeola Owokoniran has been selected to USA Volleyball’s women’s junior national team that will travel to Mexico later this month.

Owokoniran, a middle blocker and outside hitter from Raleigh, N.C., was named to the 12-member roster that will compete in the 2018 NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship June 18-23. The squad will train in Colorado Springs June 8-15 before traveling to Aguascalientes to compete in the 12-country NORCECA Championship, where the winner automatically qualifies for the 2019 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship.

An Under Armour All-American during her prep career at Wakefield High School, Owokoniran was tabbed the 2017 Northern Athletic Conference Player of the Year after recording 421 kills on a .332 hitting percentage. She totaled 400-plus kills and hit better than .300 in each of her final two seasons, in addition to earning all-conference, Raleigh Sports Club Athlete of the Week and MaxPreps Player of the Week recognition.

Owokoniran and the U.S. women’s junior national team is a part of Group A in the NORCECA Championship and will face Puerto Rico on June 18, Cuba on June 19 and Guatemala on June 20. Quarterfinals will be staged June 21, followed by semifinals on June 22 and final classification rounds on June 23.
