DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski unveiled his latest initiative in the digital media space on Friday, debuting a new series called “Gifts of the Game” on the DukeMBB social media channels and GoDuke.com.
Coach K has collected a treasure trove of photos and mementos over nearly five decades in the game of basketball, many of which adorn the walls and shelves of his Duke offices. In the series, Krzyzewski will select a piece of his memorabilia and give fans a unique window into what each of those items mean to him.
“I love having my things around me in my office to remind me of the journey to this point in my life,” Krzyzewski said. “When I look at a picture, I feel like I’m in a moment with that person. There are so many good stories and lessons associated with these items that I want to share them in the hope that others may benefit from them.”
In Friday’s debut of “Gifts of the Game,” Coach K takes viewers inside the relationship he had with his older brother, the late Captain Bill Krzyzewski. The elder Krzyzewski was a Captain in the Chicago Fire Department for nearly four decades, never missing a day of work in that time.
Coach K elaborates on the bond he shared with Bill, noting how his older brother “always had my back.” The Bill Krzyzewski Captains Award is presented annually to the Blue Devils’ captains at the team’s postseason banquet.
“Gifts of the Game” has been planned as a weekly series that will be available on the @DukeMBB social media accounts, as well as GoDuke.com.
