DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women’s cross country team travels down the road to Cary, N.C., Friday evening for the Adidas Cross Country Invitational, held at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course. The women’s five-kilometer race is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m.

The Blue Devils’ top eight finishers from the Bull City Classic will also be the eight runners to toe the start at the Adidas XC Invitational. Freshmen Amanda Beach and Michaela Reinhart look to continue their hot starts in their second collegiate race. Beach finished in first place with a time of 13:47 in the four-kilometer race at the Bull City Classic, while Reinhart was less than a second behind her in second place. Reinhart was named ACC Freshmen Runner of the Week for her performance at the Bull City Classic. The pair will be joined by classmate Leigha Torino who debuted at the Bull City Classic as well and clocked a time of 14:05 to finish in fourth place.

Adding experience this weekend will be juniors Olivia Gwynn, Kim Hallowes and Sheridan Wilbur. Gwynn, a co-captain on this year’s squad, finished in third place at the Bull City Classic with a time of 13:55. Hallowes competed in her first race since the 2015 season and she came in fifth, finishing in 14:06. Wilbur finished in seventh place at the Bull City Classic as she had a time of 14:14, which was her highest finish since the first meet of the 2016 season, the Duke Alumni Meet.

Rounding out the eight runner squad are sophomores Sarah Armstrong and Veronica Brtek. Armstrong finished just outside the top five to start the season as she had a time of 14:09 to come in sixth place. Brtek ran the four-kilometer course in 14:44 to finish 11th in the standings.

Duke will be one of 14 teams in the field. The field includes NC State, who is ranked sixth nationally and first in the Southeast Region, as well as Wake Forest, North Carolina and Elon who are all ranked in the top 15 of the Southeast Region. Duke is ranked 15th in the Southeast Region for the second consecutive week.

Results can be found here at the conclusion of the race.
