DURHAM, N.C. -- Former Duke Basketball star Amile Jefferson and incoming freshman R.J. Barrett have been selected to wear their national team colors this summer in qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Jefferson is representing the United States, while Barrett is playing for Team Canada.

Barrett, the No. 1-ranked player in the 2018-19 class, was added to the Canadian Senior Men’s National Team Training Camp roster in June. He and his teammates will host a pair of qualifying games in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers later this month.

Barrett shined as Canada swept a pair of exhibition games versus China in British Columbia on June 22 and June 24. Canada’s two games in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers are set for June 29 versus the Dominican Republic in Toronto and July 2 versus the U.S. Virgin Islands in Ottawa.

The Duke rookie scored 16 points with four rebounds, two steals and two assists in 20 minutes in the June 22 win over China, 97-62. He followed that with a game-high 21 points, three boards and five assists in the 108-72 victory over China on June 24.

Jefferson is in competition for a final roster spot for the United States as it pursues FIBA World Cup qualifying. The team wraps up training camp in Houston this week and will play its final two first-round games next week, facing Mexico (June 28 in Mexico City) and Cuba (July 1 in Havana).

The USA Men's World Cup Qualifying Team is coached by Jeff Van Gundy.

Jefferson wrapped up his four-year Duke career in 2016-17, playing in a program record 150 game in his career. The three-time captain helped the Blue Devils claim the 2015 national championship.

The 2019 FIBA World Cup will be contested August 31 to September 15 next summer in China.
