DURHAM, N.C. – The John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy’s has announced its Midseason Top 25 Watch List, which included Duke freshmen RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson.

Barrett and Williamson are the only pair of power conference teammates each averaging 20 points per game -- Barrett leads the ACC and is 13th nationally (22.8), with Williamson second in the league (20.9). With 20-point performances in 11 of his first 14 games, Barrett is the ACC’s only player ranked in the top 10 in points (first), top 15 in rebounding (15th) and top 10 in assists (seventh).

Williamson has recorded seven of Duke’s eight double-doubles this season, and has posted a double-double in four straight games and five of the last six contests. Most recently, Williamson scored a season-high 30 points with 10 rebounds and a career-high five assists in the road win over Wake Forest, becoming the first Duke player with 30 points, 10 boards and five assists in the Coach K era. He is the league’s only player ranked in the top five in scoring (second), rebounding (third) and steals (tied for second).

Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation’s best basketball player at an NCAA Division I university who has proven to his or her university that he or she meets or exceeds the qualifications of the John R. Wooden Award as set forth by Coach Wooden and the Wooden Award Steering Committee, including making progress towards graduation and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Duke's five previous winners of the John R. Wooden Award are the most in college basketball history.

The Wooden Award All American Team™ will be announced the week of the “Elite Eight” round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2019 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Wendy’s during the ESPN College Basketball Awards on Friday, April 12, 2019.
