GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor was named both the ACC Player of the Week and ACC Rookie of the Week, as voted on by a select media panel. Okafor receives the freshman of the week honor for the fifth time this season, while garnering the first conference player of the week honor of his college career. In receiving both weekly honors, Okafor became the first player in the conference this season to sweep the awards.
In his last three contests, Okafor has averaged 26.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, leading the Blue Devils to victories over Toledo, Wofford and Boston College. Okafor remained efficient from the floor, shooting a combined 30-of-39 (.769) over the three-game stretch. The Chicago, Ill., native also went 19-of-28 (.679) from the free throw line, including a 14-of-17 (.824) performance from the charity stripe against Boston College that set a Duke freshman record for made free throws and tied a program record for attempted free throws by a freshman. Okafor’s 28 points against Boston College set a Duke freshman ACC-debut record.
Previously, Okafor shot 11-of-13 (.846) from the field against Wofford to finish with 24 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while opening the week of competition against Toledo with 27 points on 12-of-15 (.800) shooting and adding eight rebounds
Okafor currently leads the ACC in scoring with 19.5 ppg., and in field goal percentage (.682).
