DURHAM, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday afternoon that Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor was named the ACC Rookie of the Week. The honor, voted on by a select media panel, marks the sixth time this season the Chicago, Ill., native earned the award.
Okafor averaged 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds (5.0 orpg.), 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals over two Blue Devil contests, posting a double-double in each game. Okafor opened the week by scoring 12 points (on 4-of-6 shooting) and adding 11 rebounds and a block to help propel Duke past Wake Forest in the team’s first ACC road game of the season.
In Duke’s second conference road game, Okafor shot 8-of-11 (.727) from the field and 7-of-11 (.636) from the foul line to score 23 points, marking his seventh 20+ point game of the year. Okafor also brought down 12 rebounds, including six offensive, to record his fourth double-double of the season.
Okafor remains the league leader in scoring (19.2 ppg.) and in field goal percentage (.684).
