DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor and senior Quinn Cook were named Sporting News’ first- and second-team All-Americans, respectively, the publication announced Monday.

The recognition marks the second time in as many years, and the third time in four years, a Duke freshman was named a Sporting News’ first-team All-American after former Blue Devil Jabari Parker earned the same honor last season and Austin Rivers was named in 2012. Okafor and Cook become the 43rd and 44th Duke players to earn All-America honors, and the 29th and 30th under head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

In his freshman season, Okafor has posted extraordinary numbers against ranked competition, shooting 70.2 percent (59-of-84) from the field over those eight games. He also nearly averages a double-double in those contests, scoring 15.8 ppg. and 8.9 rpg. Okafor is the conference leader in offensive rebounds (4.00 orpg.) and field goal percentage (.668) and second in the league in points per game (17.6). Okafor’s 66.8 percent from the field also ranks second in the nation.

Cook has helped guide a young Duke team to a 28-3 overall record and a 15-3 conference mark this season, while shooting a career-high .404 (88-of-218) from beyond the arc. Cook ranks among the conference’s top performers in a number of categories, including three point field goals made (2.84 - 1st), three point field goal percentage (.404 - 4th), points per game (16.0 - 7th) and field goal percentage (.458 - 9th). Cook has also performed well against ranked opponents, averaging 14.9 ppg., and shooting 47.7 percent from the field in those contests. He also boasts a 2.71:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, averaging 2.9 apg. and less than one turnover per contest.

Second-ranked Duke heads into the ACC Tournament as a two seed and is scheduled to face either seventh-seeded NC State or 10th-seeded Pittsburgh Thursday at 7 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
