Legendary Duke Head Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski to Host
“Basketball and Beyond with Coach K,”
Available Only on XM, the Official Satellite Radio Network of the ACC

WASHINGTON, D.C. and DURHAM, N.C. --   XM Satellite Radio, the nation’s leading satellite radio company with more than 5 million subscribers, today announced that Duke Head Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski, one of the most successful and influential figures in sports, will host his own XM Satellite Radio program.

“Basketball and Beyond with Coach K” will offer a mix of topical issues, such as the state of college basketball; interviews with special guests, including business leaders, entertainers, and athletes; and Krzyzewski’s personal perspective on principles for life on and off the court.

Coach K and his co-host, sportscaster Dave Sims, will launch the XM Radio program on October 12.  The hour-long program will air Wednesdays at 4:00 pm ET on XM’s college sports channels 191 through 199, with encore broadcasts on various channels during the week.  A full schedule is online at

Mike Krzyzewski is an icon in the sports world, and he represents the very best that college basketball has to offer,” said Eric Logan, executive vice president of programming, XM Satellite Radio.  “College basketball will be an integral part of Coach K’s show on XM, but as the name of the show implies, it will go above and beyond the sport.  This is a very unique case where you have an individual who is one of the most respected coaches in sports, and whose knowledge and wisdom extend far beyond athletics, and that makes for a great radio show.”
“This show should be outstanding,” said Krzyzewski. “I am very excited to work with a consummate professional like Dave Sims, who brings a great deal of experience in the broadcasting business. He will make the show so much better. XM Satellite Radio has been very supportive in formatting the show to allow us to run Ďmotion offense’ to react accordingly to the topical issues in sports, business and beyond.”

Krzyzewski has one of the top coaching resumes of all-time. In 30 years as a head coach, Coach K has compiled a 721-246 record, led Duke to three NCAA Championships (1991, 1992 and 2001), guided the Blue Devils to 10 Final Four appearances in the past 20 seasons, developed 21 All-Americas and mentored seven National Players of the Year. The Blue Devils, who have been ranked No. 1 in 12 different seasons, have won nine Atlantic Coast Conference titles, including six of the past seven. Krzyzewski was inducted in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on October 5, 2001. Additionally, he has co-written three books, including “Leading with the Heart,” which reached the New York Times best-seller list in 2000.

Sims, the show’s co-host and two-time Emmy Award winner, is a veteran broadcaster with experience hosting talk shows, calling play-by-play for radio and television, and anchoring/reporting the sports news. Sims continues to handle weekly NFL play-by-play and men’s NCAA Tournament play-by-play duties for Westwood One/CBS Radio. He has been calling college basketball games for ESPN and ESPN Regional since 1991. One of Sims’ off-camera professional pursuits is AthletiSense, a communication and media relations life skills program that he established with his wife, Abby. The couple works with Division I college athletes, including those at Duke, as well as professionals throughout the United States, presenting group seminars and providing individualized communications training.

In addition to Mike Krzyzewski’s upcoming program, XM carries live play-by-play coverage of Duke basketball games throughout the season.  As the official satellite radio network of the ACC, XM broadcasts ACC men’s and women’s basketball games and ACC football games from coast to coast.

“Basketball and Beyond with Coach K” is the latest addition to the wide variety of sports programming on XM Satellite Radio.  XM is the official satellite radio network of Major League Baseball, NASCAR, IndyCar Series, the PGA TOUR, and World Cup Soccer.  In addition to its relationship with the ACC, XM is the official satellite radio network of the Big Ten and Pac-10 college sports conferences.  XM recently signed a long-term agreement with the National Hockey League to carry NHL games beginning in October, and XM will become the exclusive satellite radio home of the NHL starting with the 2007-2008 season.  XM has sports talk radio channels such as MLB Home Plate, ESPN Radio, ESPNews Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Sporting News Radio, plus “The Tony Kornheiser Show” on the Extreme XM channel.
