TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Duke women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a tough shooting performance, falling 69-45 at Florida State in a battle of top-15 teams Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped 10-game win streak for the Blue Devils, who slipped to 14-2 on the season and 2-1 in ACC play.

Sophomore guard Kyra Lambert recorded 12 points while redshirt junior Rebecca Greenwell, sophomore Crystal Primm and freshman Leaonna Odom had six rebounds each. A West Palm Beach, Fla., native, Primm also netted a season-high six points.

After Florida State took an early four-point (6-2) lead, a defensive battle emerged, making the score 14-9 in the Seminoles’ favor at the end of the opening quarter.

Lambert set the tone for the Blue Devils with six points inside the first 12 minutes, but Florida State was able to stretch its lead to double digits with a trey by Imani Wright. Both squads struggled with shooting and turnovers, with neither side shooting over 40 percent in the first half. The Seminoles took a 26-15 lead into the break.

The teams picked up the pace of play in the third quarter and the Blue Devils looked to move the ball inside. Florida State widened the margin to 19 toward the end of the period, but Duke responded by grabbing a series of offensive rebounds on its next possession, leading to an Odom jumper.

Despite some contributions off the Blue Devil bench, Duke trailed by 22 heading into the final frame.

Lambert broke into double figures in the fourth quarter but the Blue Devils were unable to convert from beyond the three-point line before the end of regulation. Duke finished with 25 percent shooting from the field (15-of-59) to a 46 percent shooting clip (27-of-59) by the Seminoles. Florida State held a slight 38-35 edge on the boards and totaled 24 points off of 20 Blue Devil turnovers.

Shakayla Thomas led the Seminoles’ effort with 22 points and eight rebounds while Wright added 14 points.

Duke returns home to host North Carolina Thursday at 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The contest between the Tobacco Road rivals will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
