DURHAM, N.C. – The 2017-18 Duke women’s basketball team will tip off practice Wednesday, Oct. 11 as head coach Joanne P. McCallie enters her 11th year with the Blue Devils.

Duke returns four starters off its squad that totaled a 28-6 overall record a year ago and have been ranked as high as No. 8 in the preseason ledgers.

The Blue Devils return senior guards Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell, who have both earned preseason All-America recognition by Lindy’s Sports Annual. Brown and Greenwell return as one of the highest scoring backcourts in the nation averaging a combined 34.7 points a game and draining 156 three-pointers.

A product of Suwanee, Ga., Brown is coming off an All-America season where she averaged 18.3 points and dished a team-best 131 assists. She also drained 73 three-pointers and hit 92.8 percent from the charity stripe. Brown was rewarded with Associated Press All-America accolades along with First Team All-ACC honors.

Greenwell, who hails from Owensboro, Ky., drilled a team-best 83 three-pointers, while averaging 16.4 points and pulling down a team-best 6.4 rebounds a game. She earned First Team All-ACC accolades for the first time in her career, after receiving Second Team All-ACC honors as a sophomore. Greenwell is only 24 three-pointers away from matching the Duke career record.

Duke featured a tour of Italy in August that allowed the squad to practice prior to the trip and play three contests during the tour, which should be a huge benefit for the squad going into the 2017-18 campaign.

Along with Brown and Greenwell, Duke returns four other letterwinners from a year ago -- Leaonna Odom, Kyra Lambert, Erin Mathias and Faith Suggs. Duke will welcome one of the top recruiting classes in the nation that includes McDonald’s All-America Jade Williams, North Carolina Player of the Year Mikayla Boykin, Madison Treece and Jayda Adams.

The Blue Devils welcome fifth-year transfer Bego Faz Davalos, who will arrive after playing the last three seasons at Fresno State. Davalos will enter her senior season as the NCAA active leader in blocks (346), rebounds (896) and double-doubles (37).

Duke will also feature the services of Sofia Roma, Haley Gorecki and Emily Schubert this year after missing last season with injuries and transfer rules.

All home games are played in the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium. For ticket information, contact the Duke Ticket Office at (919) 681-2583 or 1-877-375-3853. You can also purchase tickets online at www.GoDuke.com.

Duke will get started Oct. 22 with the annual Blue/White scrimmage and then will host Alaska Anchorage Sunday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m., for its final exhibition contest. The Blue Devils open the regular season Sunday, Nov. 12 at Grand Canyon.
