DURHAM, N.C.— Former Duke University women’s basketball National Player of the Year, Lindsey Harding was selected to be a part of Michelle Obama’s fifth annual College Signing Day event in Philadelphia, Pa., Wednesday alongside celebrities such as Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Rebel Wilson, Karlie Kloss, Ciara, Janelle Monae and Zendaya.

Harding, the former first lady and other celebrities were at Temple University to congratulate high school seniors on their decision to pursue higher education.

"It was an amazing opportunity to be involved with the Michelle Obama College Signing Day in Philadelphia," commented Harding.  "This was a celebration of all high school students who have committed to going to college. There were over a thousand College Signing Day events held around the country."

A 2007 Duke graduate and former WNBA standout, Harding was the No. 1 selection in the WNBA draft and played for seven different teams before retiring. She competed in the 2016 Olympics with Belarus. Harding was the 2007 National Player of the Year, after helping the Blue Devils to an undefeated regular season. She led Duke to the 2006 NCAA Final Four and was the 2007 WBCA National Defensive Player of the Year.

College Signing Day was started in 2014 by Obama as part of her “Reach Higher” initiative encouraging high school students to pursue high education.
