DURHAM, N.C.— Following a busy summer, all 14 members of the Duke women’s basketball team have arrived on campus and are excited for the 2018-19 school year, which opened Monday, Aug. 27 with the first day of class.
For the first time as a group, the freshmen – Rayah Craig, Uchenna Nwoke, Miela Goodchild and Onome Akinbode-James -- gathered in front of the chapel to pose for a photo.
The Blue Devils enter the 2018-19 season with a much different looking roster as head coach Joanne P. McCallie enters her 12th season at the helm. Following the graduation of two of the best scorer’s in Duke history, Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell, the Blue Devils will turn to a talented group of young rising standouts.
Expecting to take on more of a scoring role this season will be rising junior Haley Gorecki and junior Leaonna Odom. Both showed glimpses of All-America type play a year ago. The Blue Devils are also expecting Kyra Lambert and Mikayla Boykin to return from injury, while also welcoming back Sofia Roma, Faith Suggs, Jade Williams, Emily Schubert, Jayda Adams and Madison Treece.
Mix the returners along with the talented freshman class, the Blue Devils are primed to make another ACC and NCAA Tournament run.
Duke will get things going Oct. 21 with the annual Blue/White Scrimmage.
