DURHAM, N.C. — The preseason 20th-ranked Duke women’s basketball team will close exhibition action Sunday, Nov. 4 as the Blue Devils will host Alaska Anchorage at 2 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game will be free admission.
If you cannot make it to Cameron for Sunday’s game, fans can follow the action with live audio from the voice of the Blue Devils, Chris Edwards, along with recent Duke graduate Rebecca Greenwell providing color commentary. A link will be provided at www.GoDuke.com.
Following Sunday’s contest, the Blue Devils will sign autographs and 2018-19 team posters will be given out.
The Seawolves are preseason ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division II WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the D2SIDA poll, while being slated No. 2 in the preseason Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll behind Northwest Nazarene.
Alaska Anchorage is coming off its fourth straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season title, a trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and a 27-5 overall record in 2017-18.
Head coach Ryan McCarthy is in his seventh year and returns four starters from last year’s team that finished 18-2 in the league, including 2018-19 GNAC Preseason Player of the Year Hannah Wandersee and fellow unanimous Preseason All-GNAC pick Yazmeen Goo. A 6-2 center from Kodiak, Wandersee averaged 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and a league-best 1.5 blocks per game as a junior, while Goo averaged 8.5 points, 4.3 assists and a league-best 2.9 steals per contest as a sophomore.
Duke has been tabbed No. 20 in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 and No. 21 by the Associated Press writers in the preseason.
Following the exhibition Sunday, the Blue Devils will open the regular season Sunday, Nov. 11 at Northwestern as Duke takes senior Faith Suggs (Flossmoor, Ill.) and redshirt junior Haley Gorecki (Palatine, Ill.) home.
