DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University women’s basketball junior Leaonna Odom has been selected one of 30 watch list selections for the John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy’s.

The list was chosen by a preseason poll of national women’s college basketball media members.

Odom, a native of Lompoc, Calif., came on strong last season in the NCAA Tournament averaging 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in three games. She totaled a career-high 25 points against Belmont and then collected a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the NCAA regional semifinal against top-seeded Connecticut. Last year, Odom started 27-of-33 and averaged 9.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and blocked 38 shots.

Six conferences are represented on the Preseason Top 30 list. The ACC leads all conferences with nine selections, followed by the Pac-12 and SEC with six selections apiece, the American (4), Big 12 (3) and Big Ten (2). Of the student-athletes selected for the Preseason Top 30 list, 28 of the 30 are upperclassmen, including 19 seniors.

Other watch list candidates include Kristine Anigwe (California), Kalani Brown (Baylor), Bridget Carleton (Iowa State), Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M), Kaila Charles (Maryland), Napheesa Collier (UConn), Lauren Cox (Baylor), Sophie Cunningham (Missouri), Crystal Dangerfield (UConn), Rennia Davis (Tennessee), Asia Durr (Louisville), Megan Gustafson (Iowa), Ruthy Hebard (Oregon), Anriel Howard (Mississippi State), Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon), Paris Kea (UNC), Kitija Laska (South Florida), Marina Mabrey (Notre Dame), Tiana Mangakahia (Syracuse), Teaira McCowan (Mississippi State), Arike Ogunbowale (Notre Dame), Caliya Robinson (Georgia), Katie Lou Samuelson (UConn), Jessica Shepard (Notre Dame), Destiny Slocum (Oregon State), Alanna Smith (Stanford), Brianna Turner (Notre Dame), Kiana Williams (Stanford) and Jackie Young (Notre Dame).

Odom is also one of 20 watch list candidates for the 2019 Cheryl Miller Award, which recognizes the top small forwards in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball.

Duke will open the 2018-19 campaign Sunday, Nov. 11 as the Blue Devils travel to Northwestern for a 2 p.m. (ET) contest in Evanston, Ill.
